I don't know if my toddler has a speech delay or other delays. What can I do?

Click HERE for a list of milestones your baby/toddler should be meeting. If they are not meeting their milestones, inform your pediatrician right away AND CALL EARLY INTERVENTION!

IMPORTANT: If you are in the United States, call Early Intervention for your state. Click HERE for a list of states and contact information. You do not need a doctor's referral. Call today and be the best advocate you can be for your little one. The earlier they get help, the better! 0-3 years old is a key time that you don't want to miss. Don't "wait and see"if they catch up. They will do better later if you get them help now.

Through Early Intervention your child may qualify for free therapies such as speech therapy, occupational therapy and physical therapy.

* You can also call a speech language pathologist (speech therapist) for an evaluation. Some are covered by insurance and some are private pay.

How can I help my child develop their speech at home?

It's important to get help from professionals if you think your child has a speech delay. In addition to therapy, you can also help your child at home during every day activities.

Our friends at ChatterBox NYC SLP give some great tips in the video below for how to help encourage language.

Some other ideas include narrating your day like a newscaster (I'm changing your diaper! Wiping you off... All clean!")

Reading books together (try and position yourself in front of them where they can see your face!)

Singing songs together, such as "Open Shut Them" and "Wheels on the Bus" (songs with gestures are so great for babies and toddlers!)
